What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a relaxed, focused state of consciousness. People hypnotise themselves everyday without realising - day-dreaming, getting lost in a book, driving on auto-pilot...
Hypnotherapy involves accessing the sub-conscious mind during these trance states in order to "flip the switch" on thoughts and beliefs which may be preventing us from living the lives we desire or causing behaviours we want to change.
What can hypnotherapy help with?
This list is pretty long but basically any ailment, illness or habit which might be affected by, or a result of, our thoughts, feelings and emotions. A summary list is provided to the right of this page.
What happens during hypnotherapy?
After an initial consultation, I will help you to relax your body. This is similar to a guided meditation and may involve relaxing music or imagination exercises. You will always be in control and conscious of your surroundings.
I will then assist you to focus on your goals, using suggestions and imagery, re-training your brain in order to make positive transformations in your life.
What if I can't be hypnotised?
Everybody can be hypnotised. There are just different levels of trance; some people can go deeper than others. The different states of mind, as measured with an E.E.G. machine are:
Hypnotic suggestions are most effective during alpha brainwaves. You can not be hypnotised to do something against your will. In addition, hypnotherapy will be more successful if you have a strong motivation to make a change - there is no point coming for a smoking cessation session just to appease a partner, for example.
